Heads of State and Government, senior UN officials and representatives of civil society gather in September 2015, as part of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly and have adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These objectives form a program of sustainable, universal and ambitious development, a program of the people, by the people and for the people, conceived with the active participation of UNESCO.

what are unesco 5 overarching objectives

The overarching benefit of ratifying the World Heritage Convention is that of belonging to an international community of appreciation and concern for universally significant properties that embody a world of outstanding examples of cultural diversity and natural wealth.

Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) tracks approximately 1,300 objectives organized into 42 topic areas, each of which represents an important public health area. In addition, HP2020 contains the Leading Health Indicators, a small focused set of 12 topics containing 26 objectives identified to communicate and move action on high-priority health issues.

New for this decade, the HealthyPeople.gov website now integrates all of the HP2020 objectives and database into a single site. The HealthyPeople.gov website was redesigned with a user-centered focus and provides reliable data, information, and tools for action. The website includes regularly updated data for HP2020 objectives, including data details, data sources, and methods. Additionally, the website includes a searchable online database, interactive tools for tabulating and graphing data, including state-level data tabulation and mapping capability, and a tool to assess health disparities.

Finally, HP2020 includes a Foundation Health Measures section which are used to monitor improvement in population health in the broadest sense. The Foundation Health Measures address global, cross-cutting summary measures of population health. Such measures have been a cornerstone of Healthy People for decades because they reflect the impact of actions and interventions implemented to achieve the Healthy People objectives and goals.

The research design may be quantitative, qualitative or mixed methodologies. The methodology should highlight the purpose of the research, overarching questions, sampling strategies, data gathering strategy, analytic strategies, and proposal for reporting the evidence. The methodology should also elaborate the validity and reliability of the research design and results reported, and measures for managing researcher biases.

3. Poverty eradication, changing unsustainable and promoting sustainable patterns of consumption and production and protecting and managing the natural resource base of economic and social development are the overarching objectives of and essential requirements for sustainable development.

13. Rio+20 reaffirmed that there are different approaches, visions, models and tools available to each country, in accordance with its national circumstances and priorities, to achieve sustainable development in its three dimensions which is our overarching goal.

Faced with a massive influx of new learner profiles into higher education, the number and diversity of higher education institutions and study programmes have considerably increased. This raises crucial questions about articulations between institutions and their programmes so that students have more options for access to and progression in higher education, as well as preparing for labour market entry. The overarching objective of our research project is to produce knowledge and provide evidence-based policy advice to ministries of (higher) education on how to build flexible learning pathways (FLPs).

The overarching objectives of the Guerlain x UNESCO Women For Bees Programme is twofold: to create entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for women while also working to repopulate dwindling bee populations, an insect which plays a critical role in pollination and, as a result, food security. According to IPBES Assessment Report on Pollinators, Pollination and Food Production, close to 75% of all cultivated plants and 90% of wild flowering plants depend on pollinators, which includes bees.

Nonetheless, professional standards are not enough. As stated earlier, in the framework of laws, police officers often have a wide degree of discretion in exercising their powers. There may be circumstances where police officers face ethical dilemmas such as the tendency for bending certain laws to achieve what they perceive as greater law enforcement objectives, or the tendency for applying deceptive interrogation tactics to extract crucial information or confession from suspects (ICRC, 2013, p. 140). Precisely for such situations, police services need to establish a code of ethics which sets overarching integrity standards that are built upon the values of impartiality, fairness, equality, justice, honesty as well as principles for respecting, human rights and dignity (Costa and Thorens, 2015). Depending on the administrative system of the country, such professional and integrity standards may be developed by, or in consultation with, the Ministry that the police are reporting to. Evidence also shows that if integrity standards are developed in a participatory approach, with the police and other actors, there is a higher chance that they will be taken on board and implemented by the police.

The second component of internal control aims at achieving 'accountability during the act' through establishing supervision and monitoring mechanisms. The primary objectives of continuous supervision and monitoring is to verify compliance of day-to day policing practices with the law, policies and integrity standards; and detect unlawful and/or unethical behaviour (ICRC, 2013, p. 140).

Achieving these objectives requires that a clear chain of command be established, the purpose of which is twofold. First, such a chain of command would enable police services to trace back the ultimate responsibility for a police act or omission (CoE, 2001, article 17). This is important because, as per international standards, in addition to the police officer who committed an offence, his/her immediate supervisor who instructed such act, or was not able to prevent the commission of the offence should also be held to account ( Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms, 1990, principle 24). Second, a chain of command would clearly establish the respective monitoring roles and responsibilities of all police officers with supervisory ranks in the hierarchy.

In most countries, the executive ministry that the police reports to is in charge of setting the overall vision for law enforcement; establishing the overarching policies for recruitment, performance indicators, promotions and training; and developing the disciplinary code (UNODC, 2011, p. 98).

The MedPartnership's overarching goal is to enable a coordinated and strategic approach to catalyze the policy, legal and institutional reforms, and the investments necessary to reverse the degradation trends affecting the unique Mediterranean Large Marine Ecosystem, including its coastal habitats and biodiversity.

Managers are required to complete staff evaluations, have discussions about career planning and learning objectives, as well as the competencies necessary to complete performance goals. It is not always easy to have these discussions, but giving and receiving feedback and having an on-going dialogue about performance is both rewarding and helpful.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked objectives designed to serve as a "shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet now and into the future".[1][2] The SDGs are: no poverty; zero hunger; good health and well-being; quality education; gender equality; clean water and sanitation; affordable and clean energy; decent work and economic growth; industry, innovation and infrastructure; reduced inequalities; sustainable cities and communities; responsible consumption and production; climate action; life below water; life on land; peace, justice, and strong institutions; and partnerships for the goals. The SDGs emphasize the interconnected environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development by putting sustainability at their center.[3]

Nigeria is one of the countries that presented its Voluntary National Review (VNR) in 2017 & 2020 on the implementation of the SDGs at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF). In 2020, Nigeria ranked 160 on the 2020 world's SDG Index.[201] The government affirmed that Nigeria's current development priorities and objectives are focused on achieving the SDGs.[202] The Lagos SDGs Youth Alliance is another pivotal SDGs Initiative in Nigeria aimed at promoting the involvement of youth in achieving the 2030 Agenda and supporting long-term sustainable development strategy of Lagos state.[203]

In December 2016 the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran held a special ceremony announcing a national education initiative that was arranged by the UNESCO office in Iran to implement the educational objectives of this global program. The announcement created a stir among politicians and Marja' in the country.[206]

SPECIAL SESSION Building Collaborations to Identify and Address Knowledge and Technology Gaps with the Goal of Promoting Resilient Aquaculture in the Face of Climate Change Convenors: Michael Rust (Hubbs Seaworld Research Institute, San Diego CA, USA) Cliff Cosgrove (NOAA, Office of Aquaculture, Silver Spring MD, USA) Ann-Lisbeth Agnalt (Institute of Marine Research, Bergen, Norway) A morning keynote will set the stage for an afternoon session with panellist presentations addressing how aquaculture has opportunities to adapt and potentially mitigate the effects of climate change. However, there are gaps in knowledge which need to be addressed before aquaculture is fully realized with respect to promoting global food security into the future. Following these presentations will be a workshop and brainstorming session to discuss what is currently being done to address these impacts and then, what information, technology and tools are still needed. Climate impacts will be felt at different degrees based on geographic location. Nevertheless, there will be common themes and as such it would be better, or more climate smart, to make early connections among researchers so that scientists are not duplicating effort unnecessarily. The overarching goal will be to share knowledge and potentially build collaborations within the international aquaculture field to promote a thriving climate resilient industry. 2ff7e9595c
